Funeral services for Billy Calame, 87, of Palestine, Texas will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey and Foster Chapel with the Rev. Theo Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Mr. Calame passed away Thursday, Mar. 5, 2009, in Palestine. He was born June 19, 1921 in Wortham to Edward and Mattie Grizzard Calame. Mr. Calame was a retired correctional officer from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he was a trustee for many years. He was a minister for 10 years at Midway Baptist Church and Concord Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Calame was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Billie A. Calame; four daughters, Lynn Rodriguez, Cecille Fondren, Diane Gutierrez, and Billie G. Norman; son, John R. Calame; stepdaughters, Ann Lee, and Martha Light; stepsons, Jessie C. Light, Earnest Light, and George Q. Light; sister, Josephine Patterson; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Derek Light, Jason Light, Earnest Light Jr., Joseph White, David Light, and J.D. Light. Honorary pallbearer will be Alex Calame. (Published in the Herald-Press on 3/7/2009)
