Enlisted Feby 26th, 1865 from Columbia County, PA and was mustered into the United States service at Harrisburg, PA as a Private to serve for one year in Company B 103rd Regiment PA Vol Infantry under Capt. Geo H Jones and Col. Theo F. Lehman, Lt. Col W. C. Maxwell, Major A. W. Gazzam. The regiment was attached to the district of Allemarle Department of North Carolina and comrade Morris participated in all the moverments, operations, and engagements of his regiment during his term of service while he was on duty. The Regiment was on duty as garrison on Roanoke Island and rendered very efficient service and received favorable mention from official circles for its excellent discipline. He was Honorably Discharged on June 25, 1865 at New Bern, N.C., by reason of close of war.
