Tom Eastman, Sr ,67, South Dakota Attorney for 42 years and former assistant attorney general of the state, died Sunday in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at Behren's Funeral Home. A memorial is being established for a bookshelf in the Pennnington law Library.
Eastman , who was born in Oelrichs July 12, 1890m was reared and attended school in Hot Springs. Upon graduation he began work in the Hot Springs office of his father, the late Charles Eastman, and at the age of 25 was admitted to the South Dakota Bar Association. Eastman practiced with his father in Hot Springs for a few years, the set up practice in Rapid City before going to Mitchell. He served as assistant attorney general of South Dakota from 1933 to 1939, then practiced in Custer before returning to Rapid City to establish officess during WW 11.
He was married in 1916 ot Ella Jones, who survives, Eastman was president of the South Dakota State Bar Association, a member of the Pennington County and American Bar Association, the Elks and Rotary Clubs of Rapid City.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Tom Eastman,, Jr Rapid City attorney; two daughters Mariane Eastman,, Mexico City and Mrs Patricia Burrows, Denver; three brothers, two sisters and eight grandchildren."
