Bertha White
Bertha C. White, (nee Jamie), 86, of Amherst, died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at Metropolitan Medical Center, Cleveland, from injuries sustained in a car crash on June 11.
She was born August 6, 1910, in South Amherst and lived in Amherst all of her adult life.
Mrs. White was employed as a cook at Mischka's Restaurant and as a seamstress for Mischka's cleaners and H & J Cleaners before opening her own dry cleaning business.
Mrs. White was a seamstress for more than 50 years and continued to sew until her death. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Mrs. White was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild, a past member of the Altar Guild and the Circle Six group of the church, the Amherst Golden Agers and the Amherst chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons where she prepared lunches for several years.
She is survived by a daughter Lois Cochan of Lorain; a sister, Eva Wagner of Vermilion, nieces and nephews and grand nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1987; and a daughter Shirley; and brothers Earl, Carl, and Wilford Jamie; and sisters Jennifer Deyoe and Barbara Piper.
Services were held at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Kruse Pastor of Lake Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ Fund or the donor' s favorite fund.
