He was the son of Johannes Wernert and Dorothea Nel Hill.

He married Christena Braun on 29 Dec 1887 in North Amherst (now Amherst), Lorain Co., OH.

Jacob died at the Amherst Hospital in Amherst, OH and was buried 23 Jun 1920.
