Otto William Riemer was born in Amherst Twp., Lorain Co., OH.

He was the son of Adolph Emil Riemer, Sr. and Martha Nichel.

Otto married Mary Lenora Eshelman on 13 Mar 1937 in Holiday's Cove, Hancock Co., WV. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Harold Gravan.

Otto William Riemer, 90, a former resident of the Amherst area, died Friday, June 24, 2005, at the Winston Salem Forsyth Hospital in North Carolina following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Amherst Township, where he was raised and graduated from high school. He was a resident of the Amherst area until 1979, when he moved to Maryland. In 1989, he and his wife moved to Winston Salem, N.C., to be near family members.

Mr. Riemer worked for U.S. Steel and U.S. Automatic (now Nordson Corp.). He also owned and operated Riemer's Corner Store in South Amherst until he retired. He was a former member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Lenora (nee Eshelman); a son, Glenn W. of St. Charles, Mo.; daughters Loyanne Shinsky of Ashland, Bonnie Whitney of Elyria and Linda Christensen of Winston Salem; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Eshelman of Wakeman.
He was preceded in death by brothers Clarence in 1994, Adolph in 1978, Walter in 1931, and Earl in 1996; a sister, Ruth Tirch, in 1990; and his parents, Adolf and Martha nee Nichel) Riemer.

Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery in Amherst.
