The death of Peter Luke, an old and highly esteemed citizen of the county, occurred at his home in German township, on Saturday April 28,1906, from infirmities incident to his advanced years. Deceased was born upon the farm where he lived and ended his days, on January 31,1822,his age being 84 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was one of the prosperous farmers of that community and an exemplary citizen, who was always interested in the welfare of others and although he had passed the allotted years to man, his death was nevertheless a loss to his family and friends. Many years ago he united with the U.B. church at Farmerstown and was a faithful and consistent member until death called him. On March 2,1853 he was united in marriage to Mary Knepp, who survives, having spent more than half a century of married life together. Eleven children were the result of this union five of whom have preceded their father to the spirit world. Those living are Martin E. Albert P. and William Luke, Mrs. John Krieger, Mrs Noah Hershberger and Amelie Luke. There were 25 grandchildren, 18 of whom are living also four great grandchildren three of whom are living. He leaves a large circle of relatives, friends and acquaintances who deplore the loss of a kind and devoted husband, father and friend. His worth as a citizen can not be overestimated. He was of a quiet peaceable disposition, having respect for everybody. He filled the office of township trustee for almost 30 years and also school director for many years consecutively. His whole secular life was spent in successful farming. But his sterling worth was manifested in the United Brethren church at Farmerstown, where he had been a member for about 35 years. His Christian character was beyond just criticism, always faithful and good, a trustee for many years, holding this office at the time of his death. As a citizen he was one of the most beloved and trusted, as a Christian without spot, as a father and husband, most kind and affectionate, and his example is worthy of imitation by all. The church has suffered a great loss and the community, a good citizen. He suffered considerable affliction for the last few years, but in the midst of it all he was patient and resigned, frequently remarking that he was ready to go at any time. The funeral occurred on Tuesday May 1, services being conducted by Rev. Stewart of the U.B. church, assisted by Rev. A.E. Fair. Interment in the U.B. cemetery at Farmerstown.

This is a triple marker. All these are somewhat together with Jacob Luke being much older and a bit farther down the hill and under a tree.
