WIFE ILL IN BED HEARS TOLLING OF CHURCH BELL AS HUSBAND IS BURIED

The funeral of August Raesler was held from his late home and St. Peter's Evangelical Church yesterday afternoon.

The occasion was one of the saddest ever occured here. The wife and two children, a son and a daughter, lay in the hospital and listened to the tolling of the bell, unable to attend the last rites of husband and father. Another daughter, who is just beginning to convelesce and confined at the home, was unable to attend.

Rev. A. Egli conducted the services and as he spoke of the pitable condition of the family, tears slowly trickled down his cheeks, while the audience, who filled the church, sat with their heads bowed in grief.

The deceased had been a member of the church during the long years of his residence here and was actively identified with its management and support. He was a member of the Brotherhood Club and served in an official capacity for several years.

The services were attended by a large number of his quarry associates and friends.

The remains were surrounded by numerous floral designs, silent token of the esteem in which the deceased was held.

The pallbearers were George Deiss, Adam Hahn, L. Lersch, A. F. Nalley, John Gorden and Chas. Short, officers of the Modern Woodmen, of which the deceased was a member.

This is the second time, when death entered the home, that its members were unable to attend the funeral. About ten years ago, a son, William Raesler, died with scarlet fever at the time the father, mother and all of the children except one were confined with the same disease. The casket was passed out through a window as they lay in their beds and the same as yesterday, they listened to the tolling of the bell that marked the passing of their loved one.
