Connecticut Lieutenant Governor/Judge. A captain in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, he entered private law practice upon returning home and began a 13-year stint as a part-time instructor of Business Law at Hillyer College in Hartford. He was appointed a judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1953. Elected to the State Senate in 1957, he served as president pro tempore from 1959 until he was elevated in 1961 to the position of lieutenant governor when John N. Dempsey succeeded Governor Abraham Ribicoff (who had resigned to join President Kennedy's cabinet). At the end of his term in 1963 he was seated on the Court of Common Pleas. Two years later he became a Superior Court judge. He was named a justice of the state Supreme Court by Governor William O'Neill in 1981. The following year he became a Senior Associate Justice. He retired in 1983.
