He married first Waite Rhodes Lippitt, (daughter of Abraham and Sarah Arnold Lippitt) who died in Batavia, New York Sept 10 1827 and is comemmorated on this monument. He had 8 children with her. They were Chloe, Russell, Daniel, Mary (m. Charles Ballard), Eliza (m. Ransom L. Blackmarr), Salina (m. Erie B. Ensign), Cordelia, and Hester (m. William W. Bennett). The youngest of these is named on the monument, Hester Ann who married William Bennett.

Nina the youngest never married but was well known in the town of Geneva.
Abner moved the family to Parkman, Geauga County, OH by the 1850 census, and moved to Trumbull (the town) in Ashtabula County before 1857 when his son Lucius died there.
After Abner's death, Sally moved to Geneva, Ashtabula County, and lived there with her two youngest daughters Emily and Nina, who did not marry. Sally's brothers Charles and Lucious O. Bissell lived in Geneva as well.
