By profession he was a sailmaker.

Enlisted on 24 October 1872 in the 7th U. S. Cavalry.

At the Battle of the Little Big Horn he was in Thomas French's Co M. This company was one that was under the command of Marcus Reno, when they crossed the river and attacked the indian village. Moore was one of the lucky ones, made the retreat back across the river and up on what is now known as Reno Hill. He would fight the remainder of the battle thee.
