Matthew Maroney first served in Company B, 6th New York Heavy Artillery (August 22, 1862-August 7, 1865). Prior to that, he was a farmer. He served in the 7th Cavalry (January 4, 1867-January 4, 1877 and March 4, 1877-May 6, 1879) until discharged for total disability as a sergeant. He received a pension and was admitted to the U.S. Soldiers Home where he died on September 15, 1880.
