He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Bloomington, to Perry James and Edith Mae (Vanderwater) LaBounty.
Jim retired from Golden Rule Insurance Company, working from March 1967 to May 1995. He graduated from Bloomington High School in June 1942 and from Illinois State Normal in June 1950.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korean. OCS from March 1951 to June 1951. Commission ensign June 1951.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville.
His wife, Wanda Rogers LaBounty, whom he married on April 20, 1956, survives. Also surviving are his sons, Scott and Todd; brothers, Warren LaBounty, and Jack LaBounty; grandchildren, Robert LaBounty, Stacia LaBounty, and Laurel LaBounty, Anna LaBounty, and Jessie LaBounty.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Research: The Organized Genetics Initiative (Progeni) located in Indianapolis.
