Timothy James Coon was born on July 10, 1953 to Malcolm L. and B. Arlene Jeffery Coon in McLean, NY.

He was welcomed home to God his maker on Sunday, March 1, 2009.

A lifelong resident of McLean, Tim attended St. Mary's Elementary School in Cortland and was graduated from Dryden High School in 1970 with a certificate in carpentry from BOCES. Tim was a proud member of the McLean Volunteer Fire Department for more than thirty-five years. He was on the scene for every emergency either directing traffic or fighting fires. Tim loyally assisted with nearly every Chicken Barbeque, and for years he worked from sunup to close every day of the annual McLean Carnival that benefitted the fire department. A more devoted brother has never lived. He was always there to lend a helping hand and equipment for everything from gardening to felling trees and cutting-splitting firewood. In his early years he was an avid hunter and fisherman and he taught his nephews those skills.

Tim was a loving and generous uncle to six nieces and nephews and attended all their baptisms and graduations and loved sharing the holidays with them. Tim loved his family and friends and anyone who had a kind word for him.

He was a dedicated employee and proud of his work at Cortland Overhead Door, Tompkins County Airport and George Junior Republic. Tim was a good and honest man.

He is survived by his uncle, William Keith Jeffery/Savannah, Mo., his aunt and uncle Carina and Frank Emerson/Groton, his lifelong best friend, Roy Bell/McLean, his sister and brother-in-law Janette and Clifford Wallace/Christiansburg, Va., and his brother and sister-in-law Malcolm "Butch" and Sheila Coon/Erie, Pa. Nephews: Michael (Jennifer) Wallace/Newport, Va., J. Frederick (Amanda) Coon/Long Beach, Miss., Nieces: Theresa Wallace/Christiansburg, Va., Carey (Steve) Aderhold/York, Pa., Jaclyn (Ryan) Fuller/Dover, De., and Bethany Coon/Erie, Pa. Tim has three great-nephews: Zachary and Marcus Wallace and Sean Aderhold and one great-niece, Elyse Fuller. He leaves many cousins and friends who grieve his loss but also celebrate his life and cherish the joy he shared – unselfishly, never expecting anything in return.

Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Perkins Funeral Home of Dryden. Calling hours are Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service by Rev. Leslie A. Smith of the McLean Community Church will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at McLean Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the McLean Rescue Squad, or the charity of one's choice.
