KENDALLVILLE — Richard J. Nusbaum, 85, of Kendallville died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.

Mr. Nusbaum was a custodian at Goshen College for 15 years and a taxi driver for nine years.

He was a member of Liberty Community Church, and a World War II veteran. He was also active in Men for Missions, served in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Hawaii and Puerto Rico and sang with several quartets.

He was born March 1, 1925, in Elkhart County, to Oliver and Iva (Hooley) Nusbaum. He married Velma Kauffman on Aug. 25, 1945, in Middlebury.

Survivors include five daughters, Kathy Jordan of Fort Wayne, Mary (Ron) Becker of Kendallville, Nancy Morris of Elkhart, Patty (Ron) Eutsey of Shipshewana and Jessie (Gerry) Puffer of Goshen; a son, Richard J. Nusbaum of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nusbaum of Middlebury; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Ted) Stouder of Goshen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Gerald, Leroy and Lloyd; and three brothers, Harold, Hubert, Robert. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at funeral home with the Rev. Matt Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Middlebury.
