Marion Benjamin Scales married Mary Elizabeth McFall on November 28, 1880 in Mound City, Linn County, KS. Marion and Mary Elizabeth had five children. Mary Elizabeth died in 1891 and Marion married her sister, Beadie Mae McFall on May 24, 1892 in Mulberry, Crawford County, KS. Marion and Beadie May had eight children. Marion's parents were James M. Scales and Dicey Catherine (Walden) Scales.

M. Scales Dead

One of the saddest deaths was that of Marion Scales, who died at his home five miles northwest of Cherokee at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. He was born in Kentucky, 1861. He came to Kansas in 1870 with grandparents.

He leaves a wife, five daughters, three sons, one stepson, two grandcildren, the daughters are Mrs George Walters, Miss Lena Scales of Kansas City, Mrs. Paul Haney of Monmouth, Nettie, Jane, and Helen at home. The sons are James, Hilton at home, one stepson Orin who lives near him.

Two granddaughters, Marian Haney and Lena Walters, besides a host of friends who in this their sad hour of trial, extend their deepest sympathy to the breaved ones. When a yonug man he united with the Dunkard church and lived a good Christian life. Owing to the family being quarantined only a brief service was held in the yard. He was the first victim of influenza in the community.
