Amos H. Bartlett was born 5 Feb 1864 near Waterloo, Iowa, to Joel Bartlett and his third wife, Adeline Highonith. His family moved around a bit, and were recorded in 1870 as being in Bradford township of Chickasaw county, Iowa (along with his sister, Elmira, 2 years his senior); in 1875 & 1880 in Pawnee township of Smith county, Kansas; and back to Black Hawk county, Iowa in 1885. His parents eventually settled in Jewell county, Kansas are are buried there at the Prairie Home Cemetery. Amos' first marriage, on 8 Jan 1888 to Sarah E. "Addie" McClellan in Iowa was brief; Addie died a short 8 months after their marriage. He then married, in about 1892, Aura M. Gallogly who was born in Ohio. To this union was born one son, Paul Arnell. They lived in Portis, Kansas and owned a general store. Upon their retirement they joined their son in Colorado Springs where they lived out their lives.
