DALTON -- Phyllis Jean Ernest, age 77 of Dalton, Neb., passed away at her home, Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 4. Both services will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dalton with Father Bryan Ernest, Bishop William Dendinger and Priests of the Diocese officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Dalton.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel today from 1-5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis' name to St. Mary's Church, Dalton Rescue, the Leyton School Foundation or the Cheyenne County 4-H Council.

Phyllis Jean Ernest, the second daughter of Harold Peter and Mabel Lillian (Siefer) Brunner was born March 22, 1931, in Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Dalton. She was the first baby born in the hospital after Dr. J.B. Pankau started it in the old school building.
She attended rural school at District No. 19, graduating from the eighth grade. Her family having no means to get her into Dalton to school, Phyllis began boarding in Scottsbluff, working for her room and board. Phyllis graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1948, and attended the University of Nebraska from 1948 to 1950. In the fall of 1950, she worked in the Dalton Hospital.
On May 7, 1951, Phyllis was united in marriage to Otto Dominic Ernest at St. Mary's Church in Dalton. They made their home east of Dalton. They worked together many years running the farm until Dom's death on June 20, 1980. Phyllis remained on the farm until moving into Dalton in the Fall of 1990.
Phyllis was a longtime member of the O.D.O. Club, Fairview F.C.E., Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and St. Mary's Alter Society.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Kay (Reg) Warner of Arapahoe; three sons, Father Bryan D. Ernest of Ogallala, Dennis L. Ernest of Gering and James B. (Suzy) Ernest of rural Lodgepole; one brother, Duane (Geri) Brunner of Edgewater, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Raymond (Lyla) Ernest and Patrick (Peggy) Ernest both of Dalton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Richards of Spokane, Wash., and Eleanor Ernest of Dalton; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parent; her husband, Dom; four infant siblings, Harold, Donald and twins Larry and Lorraine; one adult sister, Joan Pochon and husband, Marvin; five brothers-in-law, Richard and Robert Ernest, James Richards, Paul Anderson and Albert Fehringer; four sisters-in-law, Phyllis E. Ernest, Dorothy Fehringer, Cecilia Anderson and Helen Brunner; one granddaughter, Samantha Ernest; and several extended family members.
