Claude Elbert Edgmond, the son of Pollie (Smith) & James Albert Edgmond, was born in Spring Valley Township, Shannon County, Missouri. He was born with cerebral palsey, but that didn't stop him from enjoying his life. He lived in Hartshorn, Missouri until 1972. After his mother's death he moved from their home to a smaller house right across the street from the store. He spent much time at that store visiting with friends.

Claude was a very happy man who enjoyed being around people. He became a diabetic in his mid-years (his sister Elsie died of diabetes complications) which eventually led to his death. He had a sore on his foot, which he didn't pay much attention to. Since he was a diabetic, the sore wouldn't heal & gangrene developed; the foot had to be amputated. That wouldn't heal either and led to his leg being amputated in 1972. His niece Helen drove his sister Bernice to University Hospitals in Columbia to bring Claude home with them to Des Moines, Iowa. Bernice cared for him during his recovery from surgery and afterwards.

While living with Bernice, Claude really enjoyed having her children & grandchildren come to visit. He especially enjoyed seeing the little children & they loved him.

In August 1977, Claude had gallbladder surgery from which he just could not recover, once again because of diabetes. His nieces and nephews visited him, but Bernice was there with him daily. Although Claude never married & had no children, he was deeply loved and missed by his family and many friends.
