WWI US Army veteran. Enlisted 9 May 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia. Reported for duty to Fort McPherson and assigned to 1st O.F.C. Trandferred to 7th Prov. Reg. at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Transferred to 321st M.G. Battalion at Camp Fordon. Sailed for foreign duty in April 1918 on the Steamship Carpathia. Engagements served include Marbach (Germany); the Somme, St. Mihiel, and Argonne, France; he received two wounds. He sailed for home in May 1991 on the Steamship Marsha Washington, landing at Newport News, Virginia. He was given an Honorable discharge on May 1919 out of Camp Gordon at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
