Tuberculosis.

Rev B. F. Leake, for many years a resident of this place, and well known and respected among the people of this community, died at his home in Downing, Mo. shortly before noon Saturday, March 17, 1917. While he had been in poor health from tuberculosis for a number of years, his last illness was brief, covering a period of only about one week.
Benjamin Franklin Leake was a son of Benjamin Franklin and Martha Leake. His father was a well known pioneer minister of the Methodist church. The subject of this sketch was born in Schuyler County, Illinois, January 22, 1867, and at the time of his death was aged 50 years, 1 month, and 25 days. At the age of twelve years he came with his parents to Missouri, and to Brunswick, where he grew to manhood. He was married on September 26, 1888 to Miss Mary Maggard who with two daughters Mrs, Lloyd McKinney of this place and Miss Ruth Leake, survives him.
Fourteen years ago Mr. Leake entered the ministry and became a member of the Missouri Conference of the M. E. Church, South. From the time he took up the work of preaching the gospel till he was called to his reward, he was known as one of the most devoted and consecrated ministers in the Missouri Conference. Though for years a constant sufferer from ill health, he kept on and on in his work for Christ and the church, and when the final summons came it found him holding up the gospel before his fellowmen. In private life Rev. Leake was an agreeable and companionable gentleman, kindhearted and considerate of those around him, devoted to his family, loyal and helpful to his friends, doing good whenever and wherever he could. He was well known to practically all the people of Brunswick, and held their highest respect and esteem. He was a truly good Christian man, and great is his reward.
The body was shipped to Rev. Leake's old home here, arriving here early Sunday morning, and funeral services were held at the Methodist church here at 11 o'clock Tuesday. The services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Bostwick, a fellow minister and a dear friend of the deceased, a former pastor of the Methodist church here, and now preaching at Shelbyville, MO.
Burial: Zion church cemetery.
