HOLDENVILLE DAILY NEWS – SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1970

Earl Roberts, 71, of 513 N. Burns, died Friday night at 11:20 at Holdenville General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1898 in Bakersfield, MO.

Roberts came to Oklahoma in 1901 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James (Spike) Roberts.

He served as president of the Pioneer Men’s Club for several years. He was an elder of the Fourth and Broadway Church of Christ for many years. In March of 1947 he was elected to the office of Street Commissioner in Holdenville, a post he served continuously from May of 1947 to May of 1963.

Roberts is survived by his widow, Bearl, of the home; one son, Jim Roberts of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Mrs. Gwen English of Holdenville; Mrs. Virginia Fennell of Tulsa, and Mrs. Jo Earle Bankston, Houston, TX; Two brothers, Evert Roberts and Gene Roberts, both of Holdenville; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Crowe, Grand Rapids, MI, and Mrs. Juanita Merritt of Elmore City, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Ernest (Spike) Roberts, and one sister, Mrs. Effie Barksdale.
Services will be held at 2 pm Monday in the Fourth and Broadway Church of Christ, with Bob Adams of Oklahoma City officiating.

Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery, under direction of Hudson Funeral Home.

Bearers will be: Wayne Fennell, Larry Fennell, Randy Fennell, Ronnie Bankston, David Majors and Hal Epperley.
