DETROIT - Mike Real, 59, Detroit, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008, near Minter in Dallas County, AL.
Born on February 7, 1949, in Montgomery County, AL., he was the son of the late Leeburn and Bernice Dillard Real. He was a 1967 graduate of Sulligent High School. He retired as a major from the Alabama National Guard (877th Engineering Battalion) and was a former company commander for Guin and Vernon. He graduated with an education specialist degree in educational administration and an masters degree in mental health, school counseling, social science and school administration. He was the 2008 Cambridge University Educator of the Year. He was also an education coordinator at the Safetynet Academy in Minter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Real.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 10 a.m. from the Kingsville Church of Christ with military honors, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. David, Jimmy, and Dave Brumley were the officiating ministers.
Survivors include his wife - Linda Real; daughters - Renee (Barry) Triplett, Nesbit, MS., and Lanice (Will) White, Detroit; and grandchildren - Laura and Annie Triplett and Michael White.
Active pallbearers were Barry Frederick, Ken Real, Logan McBroom, Chris and Matthew Warner, Steve Lawler, Darin Henson, and Tommy Smith.
Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent directed the services.
