Saraetta Imogene Edwards, 97, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Midland Hospice in Topeka, Kansas.

Sara was born in Pleasant Valley Township in Wilson County, Kansas, on January 14, 1912, the daughter of Enoch and Etta (Sharpe) Wiggans.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth Carson in 1931. They had two daughters, Patricia and Carolyn. Kenneth passed away in 1947.

The family lived in Juneau, Alaska until the beginning of World War II, then Kirkland, Washington. She worked as a welder during the war. Sara returned to Chanute, KS, with her daughters and did retail work.

She married Thomas Wilson in 1950. He passed away in 1952.

She continued to operate Wilson's Clothiers until 1962 when the store was sold.

She was president of Retail Merchants and a board member of the Chanute Chamber of Commerce.

She married Floyd Edwards and moved to Fredonia, KS, where she was active in church and club activities. They moved to Chanute in 1975 where she enjoyed church and volunteer work. Floyd passed away in 1988.

She moved to a senior living facility in Topeka in 1992 to be near family.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, oil painting and independent living until she became ill in the fall of 2008. She was released from the hospital to Altersgate Skilled Nursing and spent the last days of her life in Midland Hospice Care Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Carson) Baker and husband Lyle, of Conroe, TX, and Carolyn (Carson) Davenport and husband Robert of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Gilbert Baker of New York, NY, Gail Baker Wilson of Benton, KS, Ardonna Baker Cook of Montgomery, TX, Kathryn Davenport Zeckser of Topeka, KS , Theresa Davenport Swearingen of Topeka, KS, and Mark Davenport of Topeka, KS; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Lorene Mullen of Brea, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth Carson, Thomas Wilson, and Floyd Edwards; four sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Chanute, KS. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wilson County, KS.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 631 W. 7th St., Chanute, KS 66720 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Ct., Topeka, KS 66606 and may be left with the funeral home.
