James G. McLarty-December 20th, 1922 - March 27th, 2005-passed away Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Venice Regional Medical Center, Venice, Florida. Jim was born December 20, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of James and Sara (Bosier) McLarty, and has lived most of his life in Bangor. He owned and operated the Bangor Lumber Company for 43 years; was Mayor of Bangor for 8 12 years, City Tax Assessor for 15 years, a current member of the Planning Commission, and was a member of the Bangor Fire Department for 28 years and chief for 15 years. Jim was a veteran of the US Army during WW II; was a life member of the VFW Post #1527, Kalamazoo, and a life member of the Wilcox-Eastman-Salinas American Legion Post #160, Bangor; was a member of the 40 and 8, the Rising Sun Lodge #119 F & AM, the Grand Rapids Consistory, the Saladin Shrine, Benevolence Chapter #256 O.E.S., and Simpson United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Beverly; 4 children, Jill (Scott) Kempski of Bangor, Victor Burlingame of Ft. Myers, Florida, Nancy (Dan) Grabovac of Bangor, Rhonda (Ty) Gregory of Elkhart, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Norma Shields of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evalyn, in 1973. The family will meet friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the BANGOR CHAPEL, D. L.
