ABBEVILLE - Reverend James Lawrence Moss, 78, resident of 133 Highland Terrace, husband of Dorothy Baker Moss, passed away Friday Feb. 27, 2009 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Kings Mountain, NC, he was a son of the late M.B. and Eva Moss Moss.

Rev. Moss was a proud recipient of the Eagle Scout Award in 1947. He was a 1948 graduate of Kings Mountian High School and was a 1950 graduate of Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton, NC and graduated from King College in Bristol, TN in 1952 with a BA degree in History and Political Science. In 1955 he received his Master of Divinity degree from Columbus Theological Seminary. He was the Missionary of the Presbyterian Church to Brazil from 1956 until 1962. Rev. Moss retired from the Ministry in 1989 after serving 35 years. His many churches and congregations included Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Mt. Ulla, NC, Bethel and Scherer Presbyterian Churches in Clover, SC, Manning Presbyterian Church in Manning, SC, New Harmony Presbyterian Church in Alcolu, SC, New Hope Presbyterian Church in Abbeville, SC, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Chester, SC and Grace Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC. Rev. Moss had a deep passion for his Lord Jesus Christ. He had a tremendous love for his family and his many congregations he served. He was extremely proud of the lives that his children led and the decisions they made and for their growth in Christ. Jesus Christ matters in everything we are and do.

Survivors are his beloved wife of 52 years Dorothy Baker Moss of the home; his children son Marc Moss and his wife Dona of Yorktown, VA; daughters Amy and husband Belson Jones of Abbeville, SC; Elza and her husband Robert Reeves of Louisville, KY; Beth and her husband Mitchell Gregory of Apex, NC; brothers Bill Moss of Kings Mountain, NC and Carl Moss of Indian Trail, NC; 14 grandchildren Hannah Gregory, Millie Jones, Claira Moss, Joseph Moss, Chris Moss, Tim Moss, Andrew Moss, Kirk Moss, Steven Reeves, Mark Reeves, Keith Jones, John Gregory, James Gregory and Thomas Gregory.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday March 3, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Lebanon Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Arnold Johnson and H.R. Patteson officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rev. Moss is at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. The family is at the home of his daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Belson Jones, 2327 Hwy. 72 West, Abbeville, SC.
