Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2009, at Happy Home Church with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating. The interment will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Kemp was born in Rockingham County to the late William David and Annie Gauldin Kemp. He was retired from the Karastan Rug Mill / Mohawk after 46 years of service. He was a longtime and faithful member of Happy Home Church. He was a member of the Antique Tractor and Engine Association and the Southern Vintage Modified Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Ann Kemp and sister, Betty Jane Kemp.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Martin Kemp of the home; his children, David Porter Kemp, Jr. and wife, Susan of Ruffin; Terry Kemp Eller of Greensboro, Susan Kemp Nelson and husband, David of Eden; honorary son, Donald V. Lawrence of Ruffin; grandchildren, Jennifer Kemp, David Porter Kemp, III and wife, Amy, Steven Robertson, Jessica Nelson and Tyler Nelson; great grandchildren, Jenna Evans Kemp, Tanner Robertson and Kenneth Kemp.
