Mrs. Henry T. Raveling, a former Remsen woman and well known thruout this vicinity, died in a Le Mars hospital Monday afternoon after a long illness. Mrs. Raveling was taken to the hospital from her home near Ocheydan, Ia., early last month, and an operation for goiter was performed last week. She is survived by her husband, her parents, one son, eight sisters and two brothers. The body was brot to Remsen for burial, the funeral being held this afternoon. She was 29 years of age.

Mrs. Raveling suffered with a goiter for several years, but only recently her ailment proved itself serious and on July 1 she left her home near Ocheydan to enter the Le Mars hospital for treatments. Her case gradually grew worse and last Thursday she was operated on, with apparent satisfactory results, but last Saturday there was a s sudden relapse in her condition. She conversed freely with her relatives Saturday morning, but soon thereafter she became unconscious and her life passed away Monday afternoon at 2:35 o'clock.

The deceased was born November 3, 1890, on a farm in Meadow township, northeast of Remsen, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Haack. Her maiden name was Ella Margaretha Haack. She was reared in her parental home in the farm, and on September 20, 1910 was united in marriage to Henry T. Raveling, also of this vicinity. The couple lived on a farm 10 miles northeast of Remsen for almost nine years after their marriage, and last Mach moved to a farm which they purchased near Ocheydan and Melvin, in Osceola county.

Mrs. Raveling was a staunch Christian woman, a loving mother, wife and daughter, and a true friend to everybody with whom she came in contact. Her early death is a distinct shock to her relatives, especially the bereaved husband and little son, who all have the sincere sympathy of their many friends.

The deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Haack, her husband, her son Clyde (should be Lloyd Henry), who is but four years of age, and the following brothers and sisters: Amanda, Clara, William, Emma, now Mrs. Charles Schumacher, Anna, now Mrs. Howard Smith, Ida, Harry, Bertha, Alma and Effie Haack.
The body was brot to Remsen Tuesday, to the home of her parents. The funeral, conducted by the Rev. E. H. Eilers, of St. Paul's church, was held this afternoon, the services at the home commencing at 1:30, followed by services in the church. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, August 5, 1920, page 1, column 5.
