Mrs. Charles worked in the Hempfield High School cafeteria from 1974 until 1995. Earlier, she worked 12 years as an executive secretary for Armstrong World Industries.
She was an active member of Central Manor Church of God, Washington Boro.
She enjoyed traveling and going to her family's mountain cabin.
Born in Rapho Township, she was the daughter of the late J. Howard and Bertha C. Campbell Warfel.
She was married 47 years in September to D. Alvin Charles.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Marcia L., married to Salvatore LaRusso of Mount Joy, and Karen S., married to Alan DiGiovanne of Landisville; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Grace M., married to Ben L. Lefever of Lititz, Betty L., married to Victor K. Zerphy of Mount Joy, V. June Barto of Lancaster and Florence Sweitzer of Columbia.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Warfel, and two sisters, Helen Snyder and Ruth Broich.
