A son of Rev. J. G. and Elizabeth Dornbirer, he attended grade and high school in Sandusky and graduated from Capital University, Columbus, in 1898. He then entered the theological seminary of the former Ohio synod, now merged in the American Lutheran church, graduating in 1901.
Rev. Dornbirer was ordained and installed as pastor of St. John's Church at Dola that same year. He served the Dola church for nearly 15 years, during which the church membership was doubled and a new edifice was built. From Dola he accepted the call to Chatfield.
He was married in 1905 to the former Margaret A. Ruprecht of Dola, who survives with five children, Harold at home, James of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Grace Kutz, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Julia Hurst, New Philadelphia and Mrs. Margie Felter, Tiffin.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, a brother, Rev. August Dornbirer, Columbus, and four sisters, Mrs. Theodore Stellhorn, Sandusky; Mrs. William Kaeding, Luckey; Mrs. Ed Maeder, Sandusky; and Mrs. Ernest Stellhorn, Ann Arbor, Mich. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services, in charge of the Munz Funeral Home, will be held in Nazareth Lutheran Church, Chatfield. Rev. James Schillinger of Fairport Harbor will officiate assisted by Rev. Luther Knauff, present pastor of the church. Date and time of the services have not yet been arranged.
