Francis Arthur Breshears, youngest son of John and Frona (Tuckness) Breshears, was born Nov. 5, 1885 near Goodson, MO. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 1961, in Burge-Protestant Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 19 days.
He was married to Nancy Helen Carter in October 1907. Five children were born, Mrs Lela House, Voyne Breshears, Mrs. Orlena Woodruff, Kenneth Breshears, and Forrest Wayne, who died in infancy. His wife passed away Jan. 4, 1929.
He was married to Minnie Holt in July 1930.
He was converted at the age of 23 and united with the Methodist church, later joining the Baptist Church at Goodson, MO. He remained a faithful member and attended Church regularly as long as his health permitted.
He had been a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and received his 50-year pin in May, 1961.
He took a very active part in the organization of the Missouri Farmers Association.
He was interested in the education of the children of the community and served on the board of education of the Concord school for many years. He helped to establish the Emma D. School at Goodson, MO giving of both time and means.
He farmed for a number of years before moving to Goodson and operating the Square Deal Mercantile Co. He retired from the store five years ago, and two years later moved his home to Bolivar, MO.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Breshears, of the home; two sons, Voyne Breshears of Bolivar, MO, and Kenneth Breshears of Sacramento, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Lela House of Bolivar, MO, and Mrs. Orlena Woodruff of Bakersfield, CA; three step-daughter, Mrs. Jewell Ragsdale of Colorado Springs, CO, Mrs. Fern Anson of Rolston, OK and Mrs. Bryl Richards of Springfield, MO; one brother J. H. Breshears of Portales, NM; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; 5 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; also a host of other relative and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday, September 27. 1961, in the Goodson Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fletch Davis officiating. Burial was in Breshears Cemetery, under direction of the Pitts Funeral Hoe of bolivar. Pall bearers were Lee Brooks, Luther Ashlock, Walter Roweton, Charley Crain, Luther Cunningham and Virgil Griffin.
Graveside services were conducted by Osage Lodge No. 61, I.O.O.F.
