Mary Evalena Miller-Dobbs and Jonathan "Jack" Dobbs were married Dec. 20, 1891 in Hood County, Texas.

J. J. Dobbs Was Walking On Tracks Between Ash and Grove----
Jonathan J. Dobbs, 72, was struck and killed by a Fast Santa Fe mail train, Saturday morning about 11:10 o'clock as he was walking east along the tracks. Mr. Dobbs was hard of hearing and apparently failed to hear the approaching train. The accident occurred on the main track about a hundred feet east of the Ash avenue crossing between Ash and Grove avenues. The body was knocked to one side and lay on the side of the bar pits. No Inquest was held.
Mr. Dobbs had moved to Las Animas from Texas about two years ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. William J. Spencer, who lives on south Grand avenue.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Powell mortuary with the Rev. Melvin Walker of the Baptist church, officiating. Interment was in the Las Animas cemetery.
J. J. Dobbs was born at Bellville, Ala., on January 18, 1871. He moved from there with his parents to Hood county, Tex., in his early manhood, He was united in marriage to Mary Evelena Miller on December 20, 1891, and shortly thereafter they were both baptised into the Church of Christ. To this union were born eight children, six of whom are still living; namely, Mrs. Maude Wright of Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. William Spencer, Las Animas; Mrs. Johnnie Jines, Perryton, Tex.; Homer and Vance Dobbs of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Claude Dobbs, Fort Worth, Tex. There are 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dobbs resided in Hood county, Tex., where he reared his family, until 1910. Moving from there to Texas count, Okla., he remained there until 1935, when he moved to Hood county, Tex. There his wife preceded him in death on March 25, 1940. Two children precede him in death, one in infancy, and the other, Mrs. Zada Dobbs McClung, who passed away on May 14, 1941.
Mr. Dobbs was a loving father and a devoted husband. He was kind to all those who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
