American Architect. From 1911 to 1913, Spaulding attended the University of Michigan and in 1916 he graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served in World War I. In the early 1920s, he traveled and studied in Europe and Mexico, eventually making his way to California where he worked in the office of Myron Hunt in Pasadena. From 1923 through 1928, he was a partner in the firm of Weber, Staunton and Spaulding where designed several buildings for the campuses of UCLA in Westwood and Pomona College in Claremont. The firm designed the Catalina Casino on Santa Catalina Island and the Malaga Cove Plaza in Palos Verdes Estates. For actor Harold Lloyd, they designed 'Greenacres' in Beverly Hills, now a California Historical Landmark. Spaulding also designed Lloyd's beach house in Santa Monica. As a partner in Spaulding, Rex, and DeSwarte from 1940 through 1953, he designed the Leibig Guest House and Farmer's Cottage in Encino, and the Behrendt House in North Hollywood, which both won an Honor Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Among other structures he designed were the Barrett Textile Corp. offices, Westchester High School and the Red Cross Chapter House in Los Angeles. Later in his career, he taught architecture at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and at Scripps College in Claremont.
