John William Arie was born at Decatur City, Decatur County, Iowa January 25, 1858, and departed this life at St. Anthony's Hospital at Hays, Kansas June 23, 1935, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 28 days.

In infancy he moved with his parents to Knox County, Illinois, where he spent his youth.

At the age of twenty years, he moved to York County, Nebraska, and there in 1882 was united in marriage to Paulina Logan. To this union were born 12 children, one of whom died in infancy.

In the spring of 1886 they homesteaded in Logan County, Kansas where he made his home until he moved to Oakley, May 30, 1935.

In 1897 he was baptized and united with the Church of Christ, to which he remained faithful until the time of his death.

He was a good worker and a kind neighbor, a loving husband and father, well thought of by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his old settler friends, as well as those of the younger generation who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Paulina, his children Harry of Mt. View, Missouri, Mrs. James Dinning of Oakley, Mrs. Charles Freeborn of Moulton, Iowa, Burtis of Fremont, Nebraska, Mrs. Henry Conaway of Oakley, Noble, Artie, Ray, and Ira, also of Oakley, Mrs. Will Nondorf, Menlo, Kansas, and Mrs. Dick Sidles of Grinnell; his twin brother George W. Arie of Gilson, Illinois; one sister of Aurora, Illinois; 35 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. All children were here with exception of Harry. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon, June 25 at the Oakley Christian Church, conducted by the minister, R.C. Scott.
