GRANGER - Lucile M. Melady, 84, of Granger, passed away Wednesday evening, February 25, 2009, in the Cardinal Nursing Home. She was born December 17, 1924, in Mishawaka, to the late Ervin R. and Clarise E. (Rowe) Whitehead, and was a lifetime area resident. On May 3, 1947, in New Carlisle, she married Duane W. Melady, who died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Murphy, and by a daughter-in-law, Carol Melady.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Luana Voogd (Robert) and Lorene D. Hegedus (Anton), both of South Bend; sons, Dennis Lee Melady of Atlanta, Georgia, David W. Melady (Marilyn) of Granger and Duane R. Melady (Linda) of South Bend; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; and Brother Ervin Whitehead Jr. (Shirley) of Granger.

Lucile was in the first graduating class at John Adams High School. She retired from E.K. Williams Accounting Co. as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #2 and loved to knit and do all sorts of crafts.
