Leonard was the fourth of nine children born to 'Sherm' and Anna Miller. He was a graduate of Ellensburg High School and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. Following the war he worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Ellensburg and in Medford, Oregon. He attended Central Washington College two years.
Leonard married Dorna (Kain) Powell in 1948. He had lived in Oregon for ten years before his accidential death. He died when thrown from a horse at a farm near Applegate, Oregon in July 1957. He was 35 and the father of three children between the ages of 6 to 10 when he died (DeAnne, John and Rodger). He was buried in Ellensburg, Washington.
