Biographical Sketch
by Audrey (Shields) Hancock, 2010

MELISSA CAROLINE HANCOCK, daughter of Sylvender Hancock and his first wife, Nancy Adair, was born 22 May 1865 in Indiana. The family possibly resided in Marion County, Indiana at the time of her birth, but perhaps had already relocated south into Johnson County, Indiana by her birth. Here they resided at the time of the 1870 U. S. Federal Census. This is the first and only time that her father is found in records as "Jno. Hancock."
