The name of John May/Mays/Mayes' first wife is unknown. The only mention of her is by Apostle John Elliot's diary: "sister Mayes died, a very gracious and savory Christian." Her death is also noted in Roxbury records as ""Sister," 18 : 4 m : m 1651." Even the Genealogy of the May Family of New England, says on the very first page, "name not known."
She is, however, the mother of his two sons, John Jr., and Samuel.
