Jerry Fry, of Hamilton, Virginia, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center, after a long battle with heart disease. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather ("Pop Pop") and will be missed by all who have been touched by his kindness, fairness to everyone, and dry sense of humor. He was an avid NASCAR fan and for many years was a pit crewmember for Red Nininger who raced at the Winchester Speedway, Winchester, Virginia. He was born June 10, 1936, in Purcellville, Virginia, and raised in Hillsboro, Virginia, a son of the late Ralph McLinn Fry and Lydia Baker Fry. Two brothers, Janney "Donnie" Frye, and Frank Frye, a half brother, Henry Frye, and half sister, Mary Mann, predeceased him. For many years he lived and worked on the Roland Legard Farm. He served his country in the United States Navy for almost 10 years and upon his completion of service, returned to his profession as an automobile mechanic. In this profession he worked for several dealerships both in Maryland and Virginia, and was well known for his expertise in all facets of automobile repair. For approximately the last 14 years, he had worked at the Central Bus Garage for the Loudoun County Public School System. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy Gray Fry, daughter, Kimberley Martz and husband Scott, and grandson, Christopher Allen Martz, of Bluemont, Virginia, three sisters, Betty Fawley and husband Owen of Frederick, Maryland; Phyllis Jacobs and husband Howard of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Jean Gallahan and husband Dan of Purcellville, Virginia; cousin Allen Stone of Purcellville, sisters-in-law Mary Frye of Winchester, Virginia, Margaret Frye of Leesburg, Virginia, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on June 6 at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Reverend Waverly Reames, officiating. Interment will be at Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Scott Martz, Oliver Frye, Jeff Frye, Kevin Frye, Robert Miller, and Allen Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Gray, Dennis Frye, John Tucker, Bill Glasscock, and William Kirkpatrick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony United Methodist Church, 380 E. Colonial Highway, Hamilton, Virginia or the Hamilton Rescue Squad, Box 111, Hamilton VA 20159.
