CATHERINE FRANCES (FRAN) JUNTA Passed away from natural causes on February 6, 2006 at the age of 95. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada of English and Scottish parents who had settled there on a ranch, she came to San Leandro, CA at the age of 12. After graduating from high school and working for 2 years, she married Claude Junta in 1930. During WWII she worked making projectiles at the old Friden Calculator plant in San Leandro. In 1950 she began working for the San Leandro Unified School District and continued until 1975 when Claude retired and they moved to the Sea Ranch in Mendocino County. While there she was an avid painter and president of the local art association. After 10 wonderful years there, wanting to be closer to their 6 grandchildren, they moved back to Fremont. They were married for 62 years until Claude died in 1992. Fran was very active in the PTA, the Eastern Star and various other organizations wherever she lived. Until 6 months ago when she had a minor stroke that prevented her from speaking clearly, she was very alert and an avid reader, needle worker and watcher of TV sports, in particular, tennis. She was the oldest daughter of 5 and leaves her sister, Olive Willimet of Fremont and her two sons, Dale (Susan) of Danville and Lee (Gail) of Lincoln Hills, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She had many friends in the area and treasured them all. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed. A quiet memorial service will be held Sunday, March 5th at her son, Dale's home. Friends who wish are asked to donate to their local Hospice Association or favorite charity.
