He was born in Norfolk County, England in 1629. He emigrated to Hingham, Massachusetts Bay, [Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States Of America] with his parents, in the ship "Dililgent" in 1638, and then to Rehobeth in 1643. Stephen served under Major John Bradford in King Philip's War in 1675. He was a tanner by occupation and was active in town affairs. He married Ann Checkering (1616), the daughter of Francis and Ann (Fiske) Chickering on November 3, 1652 and she bore him nine children. He died intestate at Rehobeth where he was buried on Jan 24, 1677/8. The inventory of his estate dated May 1678 was valued at L585-10s-11d.
