LOCAL GIRL WEDS IN CHICO
Miss Phebe Brownell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brownell, well known local people, was married in Chico last Wednesday afternoon to Walter Robert Steuben, local young man. The marriage, which was performed by Justice of the Peace J.L. Barnes, was performed in the parlors of the Park Hotel. Mrs. Roy Brownell, mother of the bride, was one of the witnesses. The wedding was followed by a luncheon at the Hotel.

Funeral services for Phebe Brownell Steuben, 83, of Orland, will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the F. D. Sweet and Son Mortuary Chapel in Orland with the Rev. Roy Holten and Orland White Shrine officiating. Burial will follow at the Orland Masonic Cemetery.
Born in Woodland Nov. 7, 1897, Mrs. Steuben was a lifelong resident of the Orland area. She was a direct descendant of Three Mayflower ancestors, a member of the Citrus Chapter of the Orland Eastern Star since 1918, a Charter member of the White Shrine, a member and Past Director of the Colusi County Historical Society and a Director of the Orland Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by two children, Zada and Walter Steuben. She is survived by three grandchildren, Walter Steuben and Sandra Voltz, of Orland, and Cynthia McClellan, of Chico; and two great-grandchildren. – Transcribed by E.

PHEBE BROWNELL STEUBEN, 83, b. Woodland, Nov. 7, 1897, d. Chico, Jan. 14, 1981.
A current director of the Colusi County Historical Society, she had a rich historical background. She was a descendant of three Mayflower ancestors. Of local interest she was the granddaughter of Irving Woodbridge Brownell, early day pioneer on Stony Creek who built up holdings of 14,000 acres and stocked it with Merino sheep. His story is told in Wagon Wheels, Vol. XXIV, No. 1, February 1974. A portion of the ranch passed to her father, Irving Leroy Brownell and later to her.
Mrs. Steuben was a member of the Citrus Chapter of Orland Eastern Star since 1918, a Charter member of the White Shrine, and a director of the Orland Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by two children, Zeda and Walter Steuben.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of F. D. Sweet & Son Mortuary Chapel of Orland. Burial was in the Orland Masonic Cemetery.- Transcribed by M.
