Kenneth (Kenny) Edward Garrett 71, died at 5:30 pm on February 26, 2009, at the Prairie City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was born in rural route Piedmont, MO on November 10, 1937 to Clorel Martin and Delia Anna (Leach) Garrett. He moved to Prairie City in April 1953. He married Virginia Ruth Lockwood on March 19, 1955. She died April 2, 1994. He married Karen Thornton on July 10, 1997, she survives. He is survived by three son, Ed (Sherry) Garrett of Wichita Falls, TX, Dave (Brenda) Garrett of Alvin TX, Kenneth Ray (Mary Jane) Garrett of Bushnell, IL; two stepsons Kelly (Rose) Thornton of Brighton, CO, and Russell (Angie) Thornton of Macomb, IL; 9 grandchildren Matt and Justin Garrett of TX, Tanya (Lynn) Wagner of Butler, PA, Chad (Rachel) Garrett of Dixon, IL, Kelly Garrett (Ben Joiner) of Bushnell, IL, Jennifer and Alex Thornton of Denver, CO, Kellie and D.J. Thornton of Macomb, IL; 2 great grandsons, Keaton Edward Wagner and Logan Matthew Joiner; three brothers Clorel (Betty) Garrett of Piedmont, MO, Jack (Rolva) Garrett of Bushnell, IL, Charles (Marsha) Garrett of Bushnell, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Becky Strange, 2 brothers Joe and Donald Garrett, 1sister Ivalee. Kenny farmed in the Avon area working for Philip Buchen, Lloyd Luper and Frederick Farms the last being 45 years. He retired from farming in 2000 and moved to Prairie City. He worked for the village of Prairie City from 2002 to 2008. He was a cemetery trustee for the Township of Prairie City. In recent years he enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards, country music, traveling to Texas, Catfish Bend, and breakfast at Hardee's. Funeral service will be Monday March 2, 2009, 11:00 am at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon, IL. Family will receive friends on Sunday March 1, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Cormans Avon, IL. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Prairie City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
