Rode with Custer at Little Bighorn. Enlisted in the 7th U.S. Cavalry on 12 December 1875.
At the Battle of the Little Big Horn he was in Thomas McDougall's Company B. It was one of the companies who under Marcus Reno went across the river and attacked the indian village, they were forced to make a hasty retreat back across the river, up a coulee to what is now known as Reno Hill. Here they were joined by the companies of Benteen and Weir. They bought the rest of the battle there.
Spinner committed suicide.
