Ray Bates age 89, of Caldwell died Sunday morning May 2, 2004 at the Southeastern Ohio Reginal Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born June 23, 1914 in Center Township, Noble County a son of the late Linas D and Rosa King Bates. He was a farmer, a WWII vereran where he received the purple heart. He was a member of the Caldwell Free Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother Harry Bates and 1 infant sister. He is survived by 1 brother; Roy Bates of Caldwell, 2 nephews Herschel Bates of Doylestown and Harley Bates of Salesville, several cousins, nephews and 1 niece. Friends may call at the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am with Pastor Dave Wells officiating. Interment will be in Olive Cemetery. Veterans graveside services will be conducted by the Caldwell VFW Post# 4721 and the Belle Valley American Legion Post# 641
