BLANCHE (SHEHAN) JONES
Des Moines
Blanche (Shehan) Jones, 62, passed away at home on May 11, 2005 after a five month courageous battle with cancer. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Blanche was born October 29, 1942 to Wilfred and Helen Shehan in Iowa city, IA. She had formerly worked at UPS and McKinley Elementary School.
She is survived by her four sons, William "Bill", Michael "Mike" (Debbie), John (Robyn), Dennis (Erica); two daughters, Lorraine (Alan) Corbin and Sandy Jones all of Des Moines; other nieces and nephews including a very special nephew Tom Jones II; three sisters, Zelma Dilworth, Louise Smith and Kathy Shehan all of Des Moines; two brothers, James Shehan of Des Moines and Robert Shehan of Des Moines as well as 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin L. Jones, her grandson Eric Jones, her sister Geraldine Shehan Schultz, her parents and two sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She spent 13 years delivering food and supplies for the elderly. She also volunteered for the Southside Des Moines Little League. Her passions were her grandchildren and bingo, Prairie Meadows, playing cards as well as hunting mushrooms and four leaf clovers. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage. She will be remembered as a friend and she never knew a stranger.
The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Southtown Funeral Home where there will be a 7 p.m. Vigil service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Hamilton's Funeral Home.
