Married to Ida Adeline Bowers, daughter of Wiley Bowers and his wife Mary "Polly" Oneal Bowers in Anson County, North Carolina on 8 Jan 1885.

Left for Hamilton, Mississippi in 1921.There was a story published in "The Monroe Journal" on 13 Feb 1923 that says...."Mr. W. Hamp Helms of Mississippi was in on a visit to relatives last week. Mr. Helms, with his family and son-in-law migrated to Hamilton, Miss., in 1921, principally for the purpose of getting into a better cattle country."

He had left with my grandfather, his family, and several other people.
My father told me many times that he had a beautiful home with a porch that went all around the house. The day he died,my father told me that the house caught fire from a candle or a lantern in the upstairs bedroom and the house burnt down.Very cruel "April Fools Joke"

He and Ida had Eleven children, with one child dying as an infant and Ten others that reached adulthood.
