Married Esther Smith in July, 1872.

Enlisted in the 7th U.S. Cavalry in Company G on November 14, 1872, in Chicago, Illinois, as a hostler.

His Co. G. was with Reno when it crossed the river on the Little Big Horn to attack the indian village. He was one of the lucky ones who fought in the valley, able to retreat across the river and up onto what is now known as Reno Hill. He was wounded in the left arm either in the valley or after returning to the hilltop.

He was discharged as a 1st Sgt. at Columbia Barracks, Cuba.
