A funeral service for John "Corky" Clinton Liggett, 75, of Coos Bay, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th St., in North Bend. The Rev. Karl Schray will officiate. A reception in the parish center will follow the service. Interment will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens, 1525 Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay. Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave., in Coos Bay.

Corky was born June 13, 1933, in Marshfield, the son of John and Velma "Babe" Olsen Liggett. He died Jan. 30, 2009, in Coos Bay.

He grew up in Florence and attended Siuslaw High School. He married Barbara E. Fellows Feb. 5, 1955, in Roseburg.

Corky worked as a commercial fisherman in Astoria, Florence and Alaska; as a logger; and also for the Menasha Company, the Labor Union of Coos Bay and as a longshoreman from which he retired in 1994. He was a proud member of ILWU Local No. 12 for 25 years.

He enjoyed smoking jerky and pickling fish which he shared during picnics with co-workers from his log crew. He also enjoyed clam digging, picking mushrooms, woodworking and collecting and refinishing guns.

Corky is survived by his wife, Barbara Liggett, of Coos Bay; children, Vickie Bull of Lakeside, Diana Jackson and companion, Jim Gocka, of Coos Bay, Chuck Liggett and wife, Bernarda, of North Bend, Ronald Liggett and wife, Stephanie, of Eugene, Kathleen Robinson, of Longview, Wash., and Robert Liggett and companion, Virginia Clark, of Coos Bay; and numerous grand- children, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Saucier.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, P.O. Box 1028, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
