TIFTON — Henry Lee Overton, 82, of Tifton, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, with Dr. Fred M. Evers officiating. A eulogy will be given by Willard Finch. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Joe Lawrence Jr., Jason Lawrence, Michael Lawrence, Michael Tribble, Hilton Swanson, Wesley Overton and Matthew Webb will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Senior Adult Sunday school department of Northside Baptist Church, Ray and Annette Parsons and Albert and Sarinelle Potts will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born April 1, 1926, in Roanoke, Ala., to the late John Henry Overton and Irene Davis Overton, Mr. Overton was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Overton, who died in October 2007.

Mr. Overton served in the U.S. Army, 37th Infantry, in World War II in Manilla Island in the Philippines. He had lived in Tifton since March 1973. He retired from West Point Pepperell (now Shaw Industries). Mr. Overton was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday school department. He loved fishing and golfing.

Mr. Overton is survived by his wife, Loree Messer Overton of Tifton; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jerry and Kay Overton and Mary Overton, all of Newnan, Roger and Lori Overton of LaGrange, and Lonnie Webb and his fiancee' Cathy Davis, of Homerville; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Joe Lawrence of Tifton and Becky and Lamar Davis of Brookfield; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jewell and Lee Overton of Marietta, Paul and Carra Overton of Montgomery, Ala., and Stanley and Jan Overton of Lanette, Ala.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Louise and Amos Cook of Franklin and Lala Thrailkill of LaGrange; 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
